Life is pain « Cristian Mihai

“All this pain, all this suffering…even though it almost broke me, almost turned me into the worst version I could be capable of being, in the end, all it did was make me want to save the world, made me want to spend the rest of my days improving myself and helping others too.

That’s why I write. Why I blog. I try to make sense of my suffering, and hopefully help others understand their own struggles.

. . .

The real struggle is in the choice. The real pain. In walking on the street without wishing for someone to hold your hand, in spending time by yourself without feeling bored as hell, in working your ass off every day, trying to better yourself. The pain of choosing to love yourself even though you hate what you see in the mirror. To help the broken even though some of them will try to break you as well.”

Nanoparticles Made From Bee Venom Can Kill HIV

“For the experiment, Wickline’s team prepared free melittin and melittin-loaded nanoparticles and set them against various strains of HIV…”

“… researchers from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis have shown that nanoparticles infused with a toxic bee venom can kill HIV. The researchers hope to take this new compound and develop a vaginal gel that can prevent the further spread of the disease.

The key to this discovery, which was made by Samuel A. Wickline and his team at Washington University, involves cytolyic melittin peptides. Melittin is found in bee venom, and it has the fortuitous trait of being able to degrade the protective envelope that surrounds HIV.”

Dare I hope?

“This republican party is hurting the country. I would love a real debate over policy in this country but instead we are the party that embraces the crazies.

In 2008 when some crazy lady at a McCain rally said Obama is an arab McCain took away the mic and stopped it. That was one the best moments in the 08 race. He said that Obama is a good family man, a good citizen that he just disagreed with on policy. Thats what we need to get back to.

Over the last 4 yrs we have become the party synonymous with calling the president a communist, a socialist, a marxist, not born here, a Kenyan, a muslim, an anti American who secretly hates the country and on and on and on. The leaders of the party should do like McCain and stop this crap. But they don’t. And what they don’t realize is that while they allow it to continue, the independents (who don’t subscribe to this insanity) look at us like we are the party of lunatics. Today the average american looks at a republican and thinks “he must be one of those who thinks Obama isn’t an american” or some other garbage.

We are losing this election for a number of reasons but one main reason we are getting killed with women and independents is because we allow this lunacy to continue. Look, Obama is an american, he’s not a Marxist, communist, socialist or whatever else you guys think. We can have a real debate over policy and that would only benefit the whole country. But instead we have maniacs like Alan West in Fl. who publicly claim he has a list of 78 to 81 democrats in congress who are members of the Communist party!!!

This is ridiculous and NOBODY in our party comes out and says this guy is insane. They approve of it. We are not the party of Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, Eisenhower or Reagan.

As republicans we can admit that Obama has done some good things for the country. And we can also argue that there are things he hasn’t done. He is not the worst president in our history, thats insane and a completely uneducated statement. And to keep babbling this rhetoric and garbage is only hurting the party and the country. There is nothing wrong with compromising and working with democrats, its how we became a great nation.

We need to have a grown up conversation about the future of the country. But we stand NO chance in winning any election if we keep making the independents think we are completely crazy. We can believe in science and we can treat him like the president. It would be great to see our party act like the republican of years past.

I am stunned someone said this. And it gives me hope that maybe, just maybe, we can pull ourselves out of this downward spiral we seem to be falling into.

Tom Morello and Ragin' Ryan

I wonder what Ryan’s favorite Rage song is? Is it the one where we condemn the genocide of Native Americans? The one lambasting American imperialism? Our cover of “Fuck the Police”? Or is it the one where we call on the people to seize the means of production? So many excellent choices to jam out to at Young Republican meetings!

Don’t mistake me, I clearly see that Ryan has a whole lotta “rage” in him: A rage against women, a rage against immigrants, a rage against workers, a rage against gays, a rage against the poor, a rage against the environment. Basically the only thing he’s not raging against is the privileged elite he’s groveling in front of for campaign contributions.

….

My hope is that maybe Paul Ryan is a mole. Maybe Rage did plant some sensible ideas in this extreme fringe right wing nut job. Maybe if elected, he’ll pardon Leonard Peltier.  Maybe he’ll throw U.S. military support behind the Zapatistas. Maybe he’ll fill Guantanamo Bay with the corporate criminals that are funding his campaign – and then torture them with Rage music 24/7. That’s one possibility. But I’m not betting on it.

Fictional, yet intensely vivid. In my mind’s eye I can see this little girl watching the world around her.

Tanushree Srivastava

She walks like the wind and speaks like a bird. She looks timid and physically challenged, but to her she is the queen of her slums. She passes along the huts that are dripping with water from the rain last night. Ladies are sitting outside their huts on the wet ground to get some fresh air. Black smoke from some huts fills the air indicating the preparation of lunch. Everyone recognizes her and pass her an occasional greeting. Her parents named her ‘Shehzadi’ , which means ‘the queen’. She loves to play with the little plastic bag that she carries around wherever she goes. Her little frock has innumerable patches and her hands are full of broken stuff that some rich kid had thrown away in trash. Her eyes are full of hope for a better future; her heart tells her that these days won’t last long. One day she…
